I recently have found myself in the car traveling a lot and
so I had been looking for ways to pass the time and had recently begun to
listen to various podcasts and I love that idea so much! Implementing it into a
classroom is an even better idea to me. I am mind blown by how simple of an
idea it is but it seems it would be so effective, and was for this particular
teacher! The way the teacher in this
article implemented podcasts is by playing the podcast aloud so everyone can
hear while either having the kids follow the manuscript along individually on
paper, computer, or on a screen as they listened. This would be such a great
strategy to test out in a classroom because it combines literacy with technology and could be used across all subjects,
which I think is so important and useful.

I love the idea of utilizing podcasts in classrooms! I've read a couple articles on how effective they are. It changes it up from doing traditional popcorn readings and gives students another way of reading through "reading with guidance". I liked how this article expressed the importance of doing listening comprehension and what teachers have said about the effects of using it inside their own classes. Just like they had mentioned, I believe that students would enjoy it even more because of the technological aspect to it. It would give them a sense of modern culture rather than the traditional independent/group readings. Podcasts are refreshing and they're another way for students to hear and see how to pronounce/view words while reading along.

ReplyDeleteI do not have any experience using podcast at all. If I'm honest, I have never even listened to one. However, being that ELA is one of my concentrations, I think that it would definitely be a good idea to use a podcast in an English classroom. Like you mentioned, students would get a break from the traditional approach of teaching/reading and by implementing this technological method, I believe it would be a great way of holding their attention.
